Yesterday,Mayoral Candidate John Bencivengo joined Mercer County Executive Candidate Janice Mitchel Mintz to express his concerns about the rising problem of gangs in Hamilton Township during a press conference in front of the Mercer County Court House.
"Gangs are starting to become the norm in Hamilton Township", said Bencivengo. "This is the price we pay for the "urbanization" of Hamilton Township. As Mayor, I will work to provide a balanced solution, which offers the necessary resources to keep our neighborhoods safe."
Bencivengo stated that when elected, he will work to seek grants to add an additional 10-15 police officers to patrol streets, increase education and provide adequate tools to fight gangs and violence, create substations on the western part of town and request the installation of surveillance cameras at schools.
Mercer County Freeholder Candidate Shirley Guerieri, Councilman, Don Cox of Ewing and Rick Miller of Lawrence Township were also present to voice their concerns about gangs in the surrounding communities.
